Botswana is fast becoming a popular destination for tourists seeking to go on an African Safari. Should it be a spot you too are considering visiting, you might start thinking about what to pack for your trip. With that in mind, here are just a few things to include on your list for your luggage:
First, and foremost, you’ll want to pack significantly less than you might be inclined to bring. You won’t have much room for your belongings, you’ll be moving quite a bit and your stuff will become heavy and difficult to carry with you. It’s also worth noting that on mobile safaris, there are weight limits that prevent you from bringing too much stuff.
Past visitors suggest that you only bring three shirts per person on the trip – one to launder, one to wear and one just in case. You should also consider a decent waterproof jacket and zip-off pants that can turn into shorts. Don’t wear jeans as they get too heavy and take too long to launder. You should also leave your formal clothes at home.
In terms of the type of bag to use for your trip – you’ll want to pack a soft-sided bag. Bring a separate day bag along with you as well for day hikes and game viewing drives. Sunscreen and bug spray are also a good idea for your daily adventures.
Additional items to consider packing include:
- Passport, travel documents and lodging and transportation confirmation. Keep copies of each of these items in another bag.
- A headlamp and/or flashlight
- Botswana’s local currency
- Antibacterial wipes
- Flip flops for showering
- Good walking shoes
- Polarized sunglasses
- A hat
- Binoculars
- A camera
- A solar charger for your electronics
