Considering having a destination wedding for your upcoming nuptials? That’s an excellent decision! Not only will you save a lot of money compared with a traditional wedding, you’ll have a stunning location to say “I do” to the one you love. If you do hope to have a destination wedding – there are three things you need to know.
- It might not be legal in the United States.
This is one of the most surprising facts to couples, but the reality is that many destination weddings are in fact just ceremonies. In other words, you’ll still need to get married in the states to make the civil agreement legal. There are ways to have a legal wedding outside of the U.S., but the paperwork, blood tests (yes, really!), and all of the additional red tape make it a lot more difficult. Add to that the fact that if you make it legal in another country, it might not be recognized by the states, and you might as well just get married here, and have the ceremony elsewhere.
- Some resorts will give you the ceremony free if you have your honeymoon there.
It can be difficult to wrap one’s head around the fact that they can have a wedding for free, but some resorts are trying so hard to impress couples that they will perform the ceremony free just for staying a week with them. Of course, some conditions will apply, and these conditions vary by resort. However, if you’re looking to save even more money, there are options available.
- Not everyone will be able to attend your wedding.
For some couples, this factor is the very reason they decide to have a destination wedding – they don’t want a lot of people there. This is also one of the things that saves the couple so much money. Less people means less mouths to feed at the reception. On the other hand, if you want your whole family, and all of your closest friends in attendance, this could prove difficult.
