We always hear about summer reading or beach reading, but what about books for the rest of the year? Keeping with the theme of Halloween, I decided to go through my bookshelves to find some that fit the spirit of the Halloween season. With so many to choose from, I decided to chose in the most scientific way…wrote down the names of all my favorite authors then picked five out of a hat!
Shayla Black – Doomsday Brethren
This is a series of modern day witches and wizards in London trying to keep the balance on the side of good while fighting a ruthless wizard who’s returned from exile and building an army of evil in order to achieve dominion over the world. (Books in the correct reading order: Tempt Me with Darkness, Seduce Me in Shadow, Possess Me at Midnight, Entice Me at Twilight, Embrace Me at Dawn)
Jennifer Lyon – Wing Slayer Hunters
A dark curse destroyed the bond between the immortal guardians (demon witch hunters) and innocent earth witches. With this, the earth witches have lost their familiars and magic. As for the guardians, they crave the power of witch’s blood. Some hunters are successful in fighting the curse. Others are trying to kill them, even though doing so will cost them their souls. While trying to keep from losing their souls, one group of witch hunters continues to protect the innocent. (Books in the correct reading order: Blood Magic, Soul Magic, Night Magic, Sinful Magic, and Forbidden Magic)
Larissa Ione – Lords of Deliverance
Here they are, the four horsemen of the apocalypse (well, three horsemen and a horsewoman anyway). A long time ago, a prophecy was given, with two possible outcomes. Each horseman has a seal, if it breaks; it brings on the end of the world. If the seals don’t break, the world continues to exist as we know it. (This series is a spinoff of Ione’s Demonica series.) (Books in the correct reading order: Eternal Rider, Immortal Rider, Lethal Rider, and Rogue Rider – coming in November)
Karen Marie Moning – Fever Series
Follow MacKayla Lane on her journey to Ireland in search of her sister’s killer. This is not the same Ireland you find in tour guides. Mac encounters people/things she’s never imagined such as V’lane – an alpha Fae, the Sinsar Dubh—an ancient book of deadly black magic, Seelie, Unseelie, and of course, Jericho Barrons. Just who or what is he? (Books in the correct reading order: Darkfever, Bloodfever, Faefever, Dreamfever, Shadowfever. Spinoff – Iced comes out on 10/30)
Nora Roberts – The Donovan Legacy
The Donovans aren’t your ordinary cousins. All being single children they are more like siblings and are best friends who share a family secret. Follow Morgana, Sebastian and Anastasia as they use their gifts to help others. (Books in the correct reading order: Captivated, Entranced and Charmed)
All these books fall into the paranormal romance or urban fantasy genres and truly a good fit for the Halloween season! What are your favorite read suggestions for Halloween?

Very cool, thanks for this list. I’ve added a couple to my GoodReads list. I’ve always prefered thrillers and horror books like Dean K, or Stephen King over fantasy, but I saw a couple titles and synopses that caught my attention. Thanks for the list. Lords of Deliverance sounds interesting.
I hope you enjoy them. Kim Harrison and James Rollins have some you may like, too.
Interesting, now I need to decide who to start with!
For many years my reading has been organized around authors… picking one and then working my way through all they have written. My most recent was Jose Saramago, Nobel Laureate in Literature from Portugal. His novels are challenging, inspiring, a little dark and the old cliche, “couldn’t put it down” never rang more true.
I know what you mean about not being able to put it down! I have a self-imposed rule, no starting a book after 8pm, or I might not get any sleep!
I love these types of books! I will have to check them out. I just finished a great series (Elementals) and am looking for something new!
There are so many great ones out there! As I said in the post, I had to pick names out of a hat since I have so many favorites. The Elementals are on my to-be-read list…just need more hours in a day to read everything!
Nothing like getting lost in a good book…
Absolutely! Ever wish a story didn’t end?
Nice varied selection! I’m definitely going to have to put a few on my long list of books to get done.
They’re all great reads and really suck you in!
I love to read series in order — thanks for including that info.
I’m the same way! The only downside for me is that if I love the first one, I have to race out and get the rest in the series…no patience! =]
