Along with Turkey and Stuffing, watching football is another great Thanksgiving Day tradition that has been around almost as long as the holiday itself.  The very first football game was played in 1876.  By 1893, Football became part of the holiday tradition.

Another long standing Thanksgiving Football tradition is that the Detroit Lions play in one of the featured Thanksgiving Day games.  This tradition, which started in 1934 goes hand in hand with the very first national radio broadcast of an NFL game.  By 1950, the Thanksgiving Day game really took off.  This game featured the Detroit Lions and the Green Bay Packers.   These two teams would meet again on the Thanksgiving Day playing field for the next 13 years.

These days, there are two featured games on Thanksgiving Day, the second one features the Dallas Cowboys.
